Simon Sinek: The Interview that Started a Movement

As many who have followed my story actively over the past three years may know, I have been able to lead a journey through purpose and finding the top purpose-driven companies throughout the country. I have spoken with executives from Adobe, GE, Lenovo, and countless countless others, 500+ to date, to be exact. It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience that has taught myself and others the power of purpose transformation and the ultimate potential any business has to become a better version of themselves both personally and professionally. But, it was one interview, one of our first influential ones, that set the ball for Science of Story rolling and began a process that has grown more than we could have ever imagined.

After finishing my two degrees, one Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Masters of Science in Finance through continued education, and my 15 years experience as an entrepreneur, I’ve seen a lot of mistakes, but I’ve also seen a tremendous amount of good. Three years ago, I was fortunate enough to come across a TED Talk by Simon Sinek; a speaker and author that has focused his attention on leadership and sparking change within organizations. Between his talk, and his book, titled “Start With Why”, Sinek has had more of an influential and monumental role in my professional and personal development than any of my other experiences combined.

Start With Why

After finding his talk and reading his book, I had the opportunity to interview Simon Sinek in which I was able to dive deeper into his world of professional development and leadership. Through our interview, I was able to fully grasp the concept of “why” which ultimately sparked the creation of Science of Story. Sinek discussed the process of discovering one’s “why” and how it has become a sort of personal awakening that causes an individual, organization, or even community to just click.

Through this journey, the personal awakening found within the discovery of “why” has shaped the way in which we do business. Our agency is keen to complete a full session with potential and current clients that allows us to shape, mold, and uncover a company’s why before we move forward with any kind of project no matter the size. We feel that this exercise, which sometimes is a smooth and natural process, and other times is a long, yet rewarding experience, allows key players and influencers within the company to come together and end on the same page. It allows both our team and theirs to fully understand the company, their goals, their aspirations, and ultimately, their purpose before moving forward on project that no doubt link back to that overall company vision.

The Science of Story

We believe that the Science of Story is a direct result of my interview with Simon Sinek; it’s a movement in which we have connected with companies all over the country on purpose, purpose transformation, and overall company success when an organization’s internal and external stakeholders are aligned and fighting for the same goal. Through our own experiences with aiding companies in this journey and also our experience bonding with organizations that have successfully achieved this goal, we have been able to better shape the world around us and leaving it in a better place than where we found it.
